Coach Ruth (aka Ruth Castillo) is a TV Reporter/Anchor/Producer at KSWT-TV 13 in Yuma, AZ. Prior to joining KSWT News 13, she was an Advisory Board Member for the San Diego chapter of the Asian American Journalists Association. She previously worked for Metro Networks as a news and traffic radio reporter, anchoring news for KFMB-AM on the weekends and filling in for veteran reporters on KCBQ-AM and other San Diego stations. Coach Ruth also worked as an assistant Cross Country and Track (Distance) coach at Patrick Henry High School in San Diego, CA for three years (2006-09), before committing her energies to working on San Diego City College‘s Newscene. (Her team gave Coach Ruth her moniker at the team’s Big Bear high altitude training camp in 2006, probably because her son was on the team at the time.)
Coach Ruth received a Bachelor’s degree in Communications from BYU-Provo and a Master’s degree in Behavioral Science from CSU Dominguez Hills. In her spare time, Coach Ruth enjoys training for races (10K-ultra marathons) with her athletes (whenever possible) family and friends. She also loves working with digital SLR and infrared cameras, computers, gardening and traveling.
“Life has many trails…just pick one and run on it. You’ll never know where it will take you.” –Coach Ruth 🙂
